Strokes are a leading cause of death and serious long-term disability in the United States. Nurses working in the emergency department (ED) must be diligent in their assessments to ensure the early recognition and prompt treatment of all patients presenting to the ED with symptoms of ischemic stroke. This course provides an overview of ischemic stroke, details the importance of early recognition and treatment, and ends with a case scenario of a patient suffering from acute ischemic stroke.
