Pediatric Congenital Cardiac Conditions
This course will review the pathophysiology of select pediatric congenital heart defects and the complications that can occur. The emergency nurse will be able to recognize the often subtle signs and symptoms of congenital heart disease and guide a further assessment accordingly. Based on assessment findings, the nurse will initiate critical and appropriate interventions to maintain adequate oxygenation and perfusion to the pediatric patient with congenital heart disease.

Discuss the expected circulatory transition from the intrauterine to the extrauterine environment in a healthy newborn infant
Review the various congenital heart defects of a neonate and infant and provide emergency assessment and appropriate interventions
Discuss specific heart defects of the cyanotic ductal-dependent defects for pulmonary flow
