This course highlights the importance of emergency nurses and staff members in the hospital to be prepared for disasters, and the importance of collaboration with pre-hospital workers, due to the potential for external involvement in response to an emergency.

1. Identify the components of hospital emergency preparedness and the importance of external partnership
2. Review the types of PPE commonly used by Emergency Department nurses in the healthcare facility
3. Determine the need to have an emergency plan and to periodically train based on the plan
4. Identify situations that would require the initiation of the hospital's emergency plan
