This course will explain the care of a pregnant woman who is about to deliver in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department can be an unfamiliar place to deliver a baby, for both the patient and the healthcare team. We will discuss imminent delivery assessment findings, assistance in the delivery of the neonate and post-delivery interventions to maintain safe patient care.
1. Identify signs that a woman is about to deliver
2. Establish how to safely deliver the baby
3. Select post-delivery interventions that promote maternal and neonatal homeostasis
