Janie Schumaker is an accomplished nurse leader with nearly 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Janie Schumaker has spent the majority of her career in emergency nursing, both at the bedside and in leadership roles. Schumaker was named CEO of the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN), an independent, not-for-profit nursing specialty board that certifies emergency, transport and trauma nurses, in January 2021 after serving as executive director since December 2017. Recent major BCEN initiatives led by Shumaker include the development and launch of the BCEN Learn continuing education platform and the BCEN EDvantage certificate. Schumaker holds the CEN certification plus two other nursing certifications.

Michael Dexter is a registered nurse with experience in pre-hospital, emergency, and critical care nursing. Michael has spoken at state and national conferences on several emergency topics and is a passionate supporter of nursing certification. Having joined BCEN in early 2021, Michael oversees the “lifelong learning” aspect of certification through his work on the BCEN Learn platform. Michael holds a Master’s degree in nursing and 6 nursing certifications.
